Byton commits to huge display screen, production by end of 2019 for first car

The M-Byte SUV, as well as the K-Byte sedan, (arriving about 2 years after the M-Byte) is available in 71 kWh and 95 kWh battery configurations. The smaller battery will offer approximately 250 miles of range, and with the larger battery, range is estimated to be 325 miles. BYTON hasn’t commented on which range measuring standard they are using, but we believe it’s most likely the WLTP, so EPA range figures would likely be slightly less.
Volvo’s Polestar brand begins to reveal first all-electric design

Volvo’s new EV-focused Polestar division is wasting no time fleshing out its lineup. A new fully electric vehicle called the Polestar 2 is coming sometime this year to follow the Polestar 1 plug-in-hybrid coupe. Along with the first teaser image that shows a glimpse at the rear end, we also have a fair amount of preliminary information about what to expect from Polestar’s second model.
Tesla officially begins Gigafactory 3 construction in China

Tesla has now officially broken ground at the Gigafactory 3 and CEO Elon Musk made a few interesting comments, including confirmation that Tesla will produce the upcoming new Model Y at the factory.
SK Innovation considers scaling up future US battery factory plans

As we learned in December, South Korean SK Innovation intends to build a lithium-ion battery plant in Commerce, Georgia, investing $1.67 billion and employing more than 2,000 people (first phase to be more like $1 billion and more than 1,000 jobs). The article states that by 2022, the output should reach 9.8 GWh annually.
However, according to the latest news – the plant could be way bigger than initially announced.

Commerce GA is about 95 miles from the BMW Spartanburg plant and 265 miles from the Nissan Smyrna TN plant. Hmm, 10 Gw-hr battery capacity per year, might be either or both… or Mercedes Benz?

MB SUV plant is in Tuscaloosa Alabama and Freightliner plants are in North Carolina (eCascadia announced). Looks like this SK battery plant could get contracts from several different manufacturers.
